A course to guide you through the Atlas

A course to guide you through the Atlas

We use to recommend the users of the Atlas of Clinical Fungi to apply both the book and the website. They both have their own merits, which cannot be combined in a single form of publication. Therefore buyers of the book have free access to the website, and the web-only version is now moderately priced, and will be free next year. Registration remains necessary, so that we have a community of users. You may have noticed that we send educational texts regularly, which can all be consulted at the website. If you have a particular subject you would like to have treated, please let us know.

The website is a searchable database. ‘Simple search’ uses chapter titles, while with ‘Advanced search’ you can use any keyword you like. Very convenient when you write a review, as the search includes about 8000 references. Besides, the website is regularly updated with new literature and new species.

The book gives you an overview of the total, rich content of the database. The entire diversity of medical fungi is beautifully displayed including mushrooms and shelf fungi which you otherwise had seen only as a sequence, explanations of life cycles and orders, phylogenetic relationships, nomenclatural changes over the last three decades, etcetera. We did not print the 8000 references; these can be consulted via the website. Also a glossary with mycological terms is provided.

We understand that despite all this, diagnostic mycology remains a  difficult area. Therefore we organize a course in basic mycology. This course is meant for anyone working in or close to the routine lab. No prior mycological knowledge is needed; after an intensive week, you will be able to recognize fungi and understand the main structure of the fungal Kingdom. The course will be held at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. It is preliminarily scheduled 22-26 November, 2021, but this may change depending on the Covid-situation. For further information, a broad program, and registration, see the Atlas website. Please register timely so that we can update you well in advance.
