Case descriptionA 3-year-old female British shorthair cat with one subcutaneous nodule on the abdomen. The nodule was not pruritic or painful. It progressively developed during the last month Otherwise healthy
Cytology and/or histopathologyMultifocal, nodular dermatitis with numerous, large, coalescing foci of pyo‐granulomatous inflammation surrounding multiple, irregular, basophilic hyphae‐like elements in a granular, faintly eosinophilic matrix (hyaline grains)
Geographic origin of the animalSouth East of France
Etiologic agent and identification methodMicrosporum canis / Culture on Sabouraud dextrose agar
Applied therapyThe nodule was surgically removed and the cat was treated by oral itraconazole (5 mg/kg) for 3 months
OutcomeA relapse occurred 6 months later with the development of several nodules on the abdomen. The nodules were surgically removed and the cat received a combination of itraconazole (5 mg/kg) and terbinafine (20 mg/kg) every day during 3 months
