Colony characteristics

Colonies (CzA, 7 d, 24°C) attaining 40-60 mm diam, colonies (SNA, 7 d, 24°C) attaining 37-45 mm diam, with scant aerial mycelium, white to pale orange due to conidiation. Colony reverse on PDA with irregular reddish-brown spots.

Microscopy

On SNA, hyphae hyaline with lateral phialidic pegs 1-2(-4) µm long. Monophialides along undifferentiated hyphae, 8-25 µm long, 2.0-2.5 µm wide at base, gradually tapering towards the tip. sometimes arranged in sporodochia. Polyphialides absent. Microconidia one-celled, ellipsoidal to allantoid, 4.5-9.5 × 2-4 µm. Macroconidia slightly curved at the base, widest in the upper part, mostly with 2 septa, 15-23 × 2.5-4.5 µm, formed in sporodochia. Chlamydospores in short chains in hyphae or terminal. Sexual state unknown.

Pathogenicity

RG-1, BSL-1. Park et al. (2019) described an infection of a burn wound in an elderly diabetic patient. Schroers et al. (2009) listed several strains from human eyes.
