Kazachstania slooffiae Kurtzman & Robnett
member of K. telluris complex
Colony characteristics
Colonies (YMA, 2 d, 37°C) slow-growing, flat, butyrous, glistening, tannish-white; margin finely lobed.
Microscopy
Hyphae absent; pseudohyphae occasionally present. Budding cells spherical, 4-11 μm diam, to ellipsoidal, 4.8-14.0 x 3.0-11.5 μm, single, sometimes in short chains. Ascospores (acetate agar, 22 d, 25°C) spherical, rough-walled, occurring singly in unconjugated, persistent asci. Homothallic.
Pathogenicity
RG-1, BSL-1. Intestinal commensal of porcupine (Urubschurov et al., 2017; Summers et al., 2021). Gallotti et al. (2023) reported the fungus from an upper endoscopy sample of an elderly patient, and Mercier et al. (2021) from a human pleural effusion.
