Colony characteristics

Colonies (YPG, 10 d, 30°C) reaching 2.5 cm diam, white, velvety, with radial cracks; reverse pinkish-yellow.

Microscopy

Hyphae hyaline, thin- and smooth-walled, sparsely septate. Phialides 10–30 × 1.0–1.5 μm, arising from creeping hyphae, phialidic with a single opening, 0-1-septate, hyaline, smooth-walled, solitary, tapering towards the apex. Conidia hyaline, spherical to ellipsoidal, 1.2–2.0 × 1.0–2.0 μm, aggregating in slimy heads. Sexual state unknown.

Pathogenicity

RG-1, BSL-1. The species is known from a single case of a cutaneous facial lesion in a diabetic patient (Yuan et al., 2023).
