Small genus of shelf-fungi causing diseases of deciduous trees. Initially growing as an irregular crust on the wood, later developing several layers of undulate, shelf-like caps with tough texture.
Generic type species: Stereum purpureum Persoon (1794) ≡ Chondrostereum purpureum (Persoon) Pouzar (1959).
