rachis (plural: rachids) – apical elongate part of a cell bearing conidia.
radiate -(taxonomic structure) containing a large number of closely related species.
radiate -(Aspergillus morphology) diverging conidial chains.
ramoconidia – plural of ramoconidium, -lower, branch-like conidium in a sympodial conidial chain of Cladosporium, Cladophialophora and similar fungi.
ramoconidium (plural: ramoconidia) – lower, branchlike conidium in a sympodial conidial chain of Cladosporium, Cladophialophora and similar fungi.
rectangular – broadly cylindrical, with parallel walls.
recurved – curving backwards.
reflexive branching – backward branching at hyphal septa.
reniform – kidney or beanshaped.
reservoir – (in ecology) an environment where the fungus maintains, generates diversity by recombination, and from which it recolonizes its niche.
resistance factor – property of a fungus enhancing survival in host tissue.
restricted – with limited expansion growth, colony attaining less than 2 cm in 14 d.
reticulate – with netlike structure.
retraction septa – series of septa adjacent to lysing part of a hypha.
reverse – backside of colony in Petridish.
rhexolytic – conidial liberation in which an intermediate, supporting cell is sacrified.
rhizoid – rootlike structure with which the organism grows into the substrate.
rhomboidal – kiteshaped with conically narrowed walls.
rocketshaped – lanceolate, slender, with somewhat swollen base and acute apex.
rostrate – beaked, with rostrum.
rostrum – broad, beaklike elongation.
rugose – roughwalled with somewhat irregular ornamentation.
rugulose – finely roughwalled with somewhat irregular ornamentation.
