Recommended barcoding gene: rDNA ITS. Small coelomycetous genus relatively close to Didymella; segregate of the classical genus Pyrenochaeta. In culture, pycnidial sporulation may remain absent, the isolate just existing of melanized hyphae. Identification by sequencing is then necessary.
