Sporopachydermia lactativora

Ascomycota, Saccharomycetales, Dipodascaceae. Genus: SPOROPACHYDERMIA

Sporopachydermia lactativora (Fell & Phaff) Rodrigues de Miranda

Colony characteristics

Colonies (YMA, 3 d, 25°C) butyrous, white to cream-coloured, glistening.

Microscopy

Budding cells ellipsoidal to elongate, 4-6 × 2-4 μm, occurring singly, in pairs or in small groups. Pseudomycelium absent. Heterothallic. Cells after mating containing 1-4 spherical ascospores with a thick, smooth wall and an oil droplet inside. Spores liberated at maturity, agglutinating.

Pathogenicity

RG-1, BSL-1. Al Dallal et al. (2021) reported a pulmonary infection in a drug abuser.
