The making of Atlas
The Atlas started in 1987 as a mimeographed course guide. It has developed to a global reference tool for diversity of clinical fungi. In 2015 we started with color, and the latest printed version of 2020 is also available as a website. The thousands of references are deposited online, and therefore the website is an integral part of the book. Website subscription is 50 euro/year, but it is freely accessible for two years after purchase of the printed version.
The website is more than just an e-version of the book. It is continually updated: since 2020, more than 50 species from published case reports have been added. The search functions are particularly important, as not only keywords can be used, but also full nomenclature with all current and obsolete fungal names. We added reference to type strains, where known. The book provides overview of the rich contents, being structured according to the phylogeny of the fungal Kingdom, while the website is for searching.
A webinar devoted to uncommon fungi the help of Atlas will be organized in cooperation with Radboud University and the German-language Society of Medical Mycology on 15 February, 16.30 – 18.00 central European time. Participation is free, but registration is compulsory here.
Your help is needed. We screen the medical mycological literature, but for our small team it is impossible to cover everything. Signaling papers in less current literature that we may have missed would be much appreciated. We also need strains of rare species, to cover their phenotypic and antifungal variability.
